She saw colour

$450.00 Sold Out

We give flowers to communicate our emotions. We give them as gifts to say:

  • "I love you"
  • "Thank you"
  • "Sorry for your loss"
  • "Get well soon"
  • "Congratulations"
  • "Sorry I broke your favourite martini glass"

Amazingly, the spectacular and colourful beauty of flowers has the power to say what we may struggle to express in words.

In general, chrysanthemums are said to represent happiness, love, joy and well wishes. This particularly stunning pink-purple chrysanthemum was drawn using vibrant purple violet, red violet, crimson and lavender coloured pencils.

"She saw colour" recalls my journey as an artist, as well as my recovery after I underwent eye surgery; the flower was the hero in a bouquet of flowers sent to me after the operation. The chrysanthemum was as big as your hand and so full of delicious detail I just had to recreate it.

While recovering and temporarily only having use of one eye, I used this piece as a way to test my vision, my hand-eye coordination and my colour accuracy.

Thankfully, it seems, I can draw using only one eye!

All that said, gazing upon a vase of cut flowers can be fleeting. They bring momentary joy, until they wither and need to be thrown away.

*Might I suggest you gift this flowery artwork to someone you love so they can cherish it forever.
